About Dove's Experiment "Beauty-Patch"

So the well-known beauty-brand Dove never fails to catch our attention with their ingenious campaigns, created to possibly strengthen the self-esteem of us women. After the famous "Real Beauty-Sketches" video, Dove strikes back with another experiment called the "Beauty-Patch"

It's clear that the brand's message once again goes into the direction of "Beauty is not in the face - Beauty is a light in the heart".
But can Dove possibly manage to stick with their image of inner beauty once again or is this new campaign just flooded with clichés?
Read more to see Dove's video-message and discuss with me in the comments!

So basically after applying the "Beauty-Patch" to the arm of the testees they begin to feel more beautiful and open by the end of the week. At the end of this experiment, they discover that there aren't any ingredients in the patch and they react immensely suprised and even shocked.
Incredible! No Ingredients! (Can you hear my sarcasm?)
Let me get this straight - I could have told you that there is no substance to this patch right at the beginning of the video.

Of course Dove tries to show once again that everyone has the right to feel beautiful and of course Dove shows that many times, the problem of low self-esteem is just a psychological one, like - it's just in people's head. And don't get me wrong - I do actually think that this is one of the most beautiful messages an international beauty-brand could possibly share with the rest of the world.

So although I know that it's just about the message of the video (and indeed a pretty one), I do think that the concept is really cliché.
I'm sorry but do you guys really think that this simple patch could have had such a big impact in the lifes of these few women? I mean one of them even said something about a "life altering experience".
Call me brutally realistic, unromantic or even mean - but in the end it was just. a. simple. patch. on. her. arm.

Moreover, Dove plays in exaggeratly with stereotypes of women with low self-esteem.
Theres the women who's not self-conscious enough to socialize, to talk with men, the women that doesn't dare to wear dresses, the one that feels old in her skin, the one who is worried about her skin and the woman that always wears her hair the same old way.
I mean if you watch a lot of movies you know exactly what I'm talking about.
And at the end of these two weeks, the women looked exactly the same, like nothing changed. They were as beautiful before as they were after. But oh my God all of a sudden they seemed to have found the lost self-esteem and beauty that they have been searching for ages. By wearing a patch.

I mean I don't have any problems with this "Beauty-Patch" - it might even work for some people.
But I do think that the women in this video act really exaggerated. Because in the end, I don't really think that women fall for something as easy as that.

But you might see this the other way around and it's totally okay!
Let me know what you think about the Dove's message and the video!

Lots of love, Lory xxxx

  7. Haha well, sometimes a company makes a ridiculous advertisement to attract people. Some even put the reality to another side. There's a product of whitening soap that I think is very ridiculous. they said it will work aafter 2 weeks. In the advertisement video, the model almost have no face after 2 weeks (too much lightning and editing) and it makes me want to laugh out loud about their sales manager's idea.
I love how you pour your thought about something. Let's be friends by following each other on GFC and Instagram? Let me know if you would.
